CSR > Nighoje ZP School Development Project

Ultra Corpotech Pvt. Ltd. received a request from the Committee of Zilla Parishad School, Nighoje village, in 2023, seeking CSR support. In response, Ultra’s CSR team assessed the school’s condition and found infrastructure deficiencies. The school, operating up to the 7th standard with 480 students, faced challenges due to increasing enrollment, inadequate classroom space, and poor sanitation facilities.

Assessment and Challenges
Due to rising employment in the area, student numbers were expected to grow significantly. However, limited classroom space forced the administration to conduct classes in two shifts. The sanitation facilities were in poor condition, with the existing toilet block being dilapidated and unhygienic. Although Ultra had previously provided temporary toilets for girls, the lack of proper sanitation infrastructure and a reliable water supply remained critical concerns. Implementation of the School Infrastructure Improvement Program To address these issues, Ultra collaborated with the school management, teachers, students, and the local community. The initiative aimed to enhance school infrastructure, boost student enrollment, and reduce dropout rates by improving the learning environment.

Key Components:

  • Construction of Additional Classrooms – New classrooms were built to accommodate increasing student numbers, reducing overcrowding
  • Provision of Desks and Benches – 250 desks and benches were supplied, offering students a dedicated and comfortable learning space
  • Separate Toilet Blocks – Gender-segregated toilet blocks were constructed to ensure privacy and improve hygiene.
  • Washbasins for Hygiene – New washbasins were installed to promote handwashing and prevent disease spread

Outcomes and Impact
The infrastructure improvements created a more engaging and supportive environment for both students and teachers. Student attendance improved, and dropout rates decreased as learning conditions became more conducive. The construction of gender-segregated toilets addressed privacy and hygiene concerns, especially for female students. Additionally, a rainwater harvesting system and a 7KL overhead water tank were installed to ensure a reliable water supply, promoting sustainability.

The project’s impact extended beyond infrastructure improvements. With the addition of new classrooms, the school received permission to operate up to the 8th standard, reducing the need for students to migrate to nearby villages or private schools. Students now have access to quality desks and benches, which enhanced their focus, handwriting, and overall learning experience. Proper seating also ensured cleanliness, eliminating the need to sit on the ground.

Hygiene practices improved significantly, with all students now regularly using the new toilet facilities and washing their hands. Teachers confirmed that prior to the project, sanitation was inadequate, with clogged pipes and insufficient water supply. The upgraded facilities have dramatically enhanced hygiene standards.

Conclusion and Sustainability
The School Infrastructure Improvement Program successfully improved the learning environment, ensuring students have access to quality education in a safe and inclusive setting. The sustainability of the project is ensured through the School Management Committee (SMC), which oversees long-term maintenance. The rainwater harvesting system and water storage tanks support the school’s infrastructure, reducing dependency on external water sources.

By addressing critical infrastructure needs, the program has significantly enhanced the educational experience, health, and well-being of students. The initiative demonstrates Ultra’s commitment to community development and long-term positive change in the education sector.
